Just 5 minutes drive from the hustle and bustle of Margate , lies the quaint, peaceful, picturesque village of Ramsgate with its stunning blue flag beach. It is here that you will find Ilanga Ntaba Guest Lodge set on a ridge above Ramsgate main beach with glorious panoramic sea and inland views. Ramsgate has extremely lush, sub-tropical vegetation with natural lagoons and wonderful beaches. The main beach is fringed by “Tanglewood” - a beautiful environment where local artists and craftsmen show their wares laid out amongst dense vegetation alongside the lagoon. Follow the twists and turns of the paths through “Tanglewood” and feel at peace with the world.
Apart from the gorgeous natural beach, Ramsgate is a haven for eclectic personalities who are all relaxingly busy producing a variety of artistic crafts which are on show or for sale at various interesting little hidden away venues, set in the most beautiful surroundings. Ramsgate is all about peace, art and beauty, which applies to the local residents as well as the scenery. The popular “Waffle House” sits right on the edge of the Lagoon and Tanglewood and is an absolute “must” for just about all visitors to anywhere on the Hibiscus Coast. Enjoy a savoury or sweet waffle (with lashings of interesting toppings) and work off the calories with a wander over the wooden bridge across the lagoon, into Tanglewood and onto the beach. Take a pedal boat up the lagoon from the beach, but watch out for those thigh muscles! Seriously good and enjoyable exercise. There are no less than four antique shops in the village for a wonderful few hours of browsing. For arts and crafts there is a basket shop, a shell shop, silver costume jewellery, the Classic Art Gallery , the Gaze Gallery (all full of paintings by local artists). Visit Skhumba forest and visit the leathercraft shop and stop for a while at the tea garden and enjoy the hundreds of wind chimes ringing through the trees.
Visit the butterfly sanctuary and find out about the Ramsgate Piper, a butterfly that only inhabits the valley of Ramsgate. Learn about the butterfly migration and visit the butterfly museum. For outdoor visitors, there is bird and butterfly watching, surfing, a ski boat launch, dolphin and whale watching, fishing, diving, paddle boats, Ramsgate bowling club, Ramsgate beach tidal pool, snorkeling, Ibilanhlolo river estuary, Ramsgate beach grassed braai and picnic spot. For some night life there is Margate on the doorstep, but before you rush off in that direction, try the live music venues in at Rocky Ridge, Skhumba Forest, the Lobster Pot dine and dance and Pistols Saloon where you will meet Huckleberry the donkey and Bandit the pig. Pistols also has an extremely interesting “Wild West” museum. Some of the best Restaurants on the Hibiscus Coast are in Ramsgate and people travel quite a way along the coast to visit them. Check with your hostess at Ilanga Ntaba who will happily discuss them with you and make bookings on your behalf. Ramsgate just has so much to offer to a wide variety of visitors. There is something for everyone and if you just want to relax and collapse, then there is nowhere better than the pool at Ilanga Ntaba where you can while the day away and just take time away from the world. |
